Comparing installers

Getting more than one generator quote? Good.

You are about to put a permanent system into your house. Here is what we would check before choosing anyone to install it — and how Alternate Power Solutions answers each one.

Six questions

What to ask any installer — including us.

Who does the electrical work?

Our own licensed electricians — Florida EC13002031.

Ask for the license number, and whose name it is held in.

Who runs the gas line?

The same company — licensed gas contractor #24513.

Ask whether gas is in-house or a second contractor booked separately.

How is the size decided?

An on-site load assessment at your home, before any quote.

Ask whether sizing happens at the house or over the phone.

Who pulls the permits?

We do — permits filed and inspections passed across South Florida for four decades.

Ask how many permits they have pulled, and who files them.

What is actually in the price?

Transfer switch, pad, county permits and standard gas hookup — one fixed written quote.

Ask for it in writing, itemized, before you commit.

Who services it in year three?

The same local team. We service Generac and Kohler systems whoever installed them.

Ask who answers the phone after the install is signed off.

Every answer above is something you can check — a license number, a permit record, a dealer tier, a written quote. We have deliberately not written a word about any other company here. Ask them the same six questions.

The short version

One licensed company, start to finish.

Both trades in-house

Electrical and gas are the two licensed trades a standby install needs, and we hold both — Electrical EC13002031 and Gas #24513. One company, one crew, one point of responsibility.

One fixed written quote

The transfer switch, concrete pad, county permits and standard gas hookup are in the price, after a free on-site assessment. Financing is available.

Still here afterwards

We service Generac and Kohler systems across three counties — including ones we did not install — with 24/7 storm-priority dispatch for maintenance-plan members.

Fair questions

What people ask when they are comparing.

Should I get more than one quote?

Yes — and we would say that even if you did not call us. A standby generator is a permanent addition to your house that ties into both the electrical panel and the gas supply. Two written quotes tell you far more than one does: what is included, who holds the licenses, and whether the sizing was done at your home or guessed at over the phone.

What does Generac Elite Dealer actually mean?

Elite is Generac's top dealer tier. It is worth asking about because it is a status a dealer holds or does not hold — you can verify it rather than take it on trust. Alternate Power Solutions is an Elite Dealer, and we are a division of Static Electric Company, a family electrical contractor that has been wiring South Florida since 1986.

Can you look at a quote I already have?

We will not critique another company's paperwork, and we would be guessing if we tried. What we will do is come out, run our own on-site load assessment, and give you our own fixed written quote — free, with no obligation — so you have two real numbers to set side by side. Call (561) 919-6416 and we will book it.

Do you sell or service portable generators?

No — neither. We install, service and repair permanently mounted standby generators only: the kind that sits outside on a pad, runs off natural gas or propane and starts itself when the power goes out. If you have a portable unit, the manufacturer or a local small-engine shop is the right call, and we would rather say so now than after you have waited for us.

Where do you work?

Palm Beach County, Martin County and St. Lucie County. We do not cover Broward County. If you are outside those three, say so on the call and we will tell you straight away rather than send someone out.
